For What Reason? by Harry Stephenson
For what reason is one born?
I ask this question with dismay
My life has been so full of scorn
Daily as I pass on life's way
For what reason does one love?
I have questioned this now and again
Is the call within from the one above?
Or just a means to share the pain
For what reason does one despise?
Those that loved you from their heart
Flooding tears from their weary eyes
Tearing families so wide apart
For what reason does one repent?
Their lifestyle they chose to travel
Such life that has been, gone and went
Much quicker than one can unravel
For what reason does one grieve?
The demise of one's kith or kin
False tears to dry upon their sleeve
As the coffin is lowered in.
