evolving

it was such a different world
when to be happy was to be gay
and a tranny was your radio
not sexual in any way
and we had a joined up railway
not just loads of profit takers
and the country didn't just import but
were manufacturers and makers
before mobile phones
before   lap top computers
just carriages full of
mainly silent commuters
long before the days
when it was considered alright
to regales suffering fellow travellers
with highlights of the last night
that captive audience that
maybe wish they had the bottle
to grab an offending throat
and slowly painfully throttle
no 24 hour news
where they just sit and prattle
hour after hour with
celebrity title tattle
a world much more reserved
not constantly in your face
a much quieter world where
one respected another's space
