It seems only yesterday that the poppies blushed crimson in Flanders fields.
Yesterday is our today.
Although, in this dust and stone of Afghanistan
If a poppy could be found its color would reflect embarrassment
Embarrassment at our politicians allowing young soldiers to die in another useless war.
"We the people" should not let apathy sway.
Our condemnation of fickle, smug,
And for one family of so-called presidents, their pride
Betray us into saying, that was yesterday.
Far too many body bags pile up.
We cannot forget they contain the bodies of our young.
Men and women brought back from what is today our Flanders,
Dunkirk, the Tet offensive, Iraq, their vainglorious
Deaths whispered about by politicians.
How many of their young people went to fight for god, and country?
Not many, I expect though they want you to fade away as they murmur lies.
That it is needed. We know they feign to listen to our plea.
End it now save our young.
Instead, telling "we the people" it is needed for "god and country"
Let us ask Obama which god, what country?
We are the country. The good of the people is the chief law.
Why won’t politicians listen to our young as they die sighing?
