THOSE WERE THE DAYS

REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS,
WAY BACK WHEN WE WERE YOUNG?
WE HEATED WATER ON THE STOVE
AND BATHING IN THE WASH TUB WAS FUN!

AT GRANDMAS HOUSE,  OUT ON THE FARM,
AN OUTHOUSE WAY OUT IN BACK,
IT HAD AN ADDED CHARM
A SEARS CATALOG, IN FACT.

I ALWAYS FELT UNEASY THERE,
MAYBE A SNAKE WAS IN THE PIT.
AND THEN, THE BEES FOUND COMFORT THERE
WHICH ALSO GAVE ME A FIT.

AT LEAST NO-ONE WOULD LINGER THERE
NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAD TO DO
YOU GOT IN AND OUT AS FAST AS YOU COULD
TO GET AWAY FROM THAT PUNGENT POO.

THEN GRANDMA MOVED FROM THE COUNTRY
TO A NICE LITTLE HOUSE IN TOWN.
WITH A TOILET, A SINK AND A TUB
AND NO MORE OUTHOUSE TO BE FOUND
