BIRTHDAY BLUES






BIRTHDAY BLUES




Oh here we go again
This holiday lark`s a pain,
It`s supposed to make you feel glad
Instead it makes me feel sad.

You see, I get older when I`m away
That`s `cause it`s always my birthday,
I never return the same as I went
And so this fact I do resent.

~~        ~~

It`s been the same my whole life thru`
And there`s nothing about it I can do,
No family around me to celebrate
And I can tell you this isn`t great.

~~        ~~

Now my poor grandson is the same
And for him it is a shame,
He`ll be here and I`ll have gone home
So I`ll wish him happy birthday by `phone.

~~        ~~

Getting older is bad enough
But being away from home can be tough,
I should be thankful I`m alive and well
`Cause how long we`ve got no one can tell.
