 Guarding the Door

On the entrance to my heart stands a big old door;
The hinges softly creak as I push it open or closed.
Protecting the center of my being is this barrier;
I could always be safe by barring and locking it tight.

None of those barbs of my enemies or my friends
Could ever penetrate this fortress of strength.
But from whence could there come light, the love?
From where would come purity, beauty, glory, peace?

Therefore, I will always be guarding the door of my heart;
Choosing wisely what to allow in, and what to shut out.
Armed with the experience of life, combined with wisdom;
Love can engulf me with it's embrace, while hate stays at bay.

Is this method perfect, will I never ever be hurt by words?
Will I always choose wisely, or can some evil slip in with love?
I believe you know the answers to these questions, my friend;
For you have experienced life and it's many facets of emotions.

The bottom life is this… I will willingly suffer the pain of hatred
For the beauty and sunlight of love any time, any where, any way.
The beauty of life floods our souls to wash away lingering pain;
I stand guarding the door to my heart without fear, full of love.
