THE BALL

THE BALL

It always makes me laugh I have to say
Whenever I think of that memorable day,
We were on holiday in sunny Cornwall
And this funny event involved a ball.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Gwithian Beach is where we were at
And not far from us some girls were sat,
They then decided to play some ball
Believe you me that was their downfall.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Backwards and forwards they kicked the ball
`It`s my turn now` you could hear them call,
Then came the moment to their dismay
When the ball was kicked right our way.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

My daughter got up to kick it to them
`No` I`ll do it` said I causing mayhem,
I kicked the ball with all of my might
I didn`t realize the ball was so light.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The ball went sailing right past her
At first she could only stand and stare,
Then she decided to give chase
My! She had to run at a very fast pace.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

But the ball so light and the wind so strong
It gathered momentum and was carried along,
The girl was slowly becoming just a dot
As she chased the ball with all she had got.

`Mum! What have you done?` my daughter cried
But by now my laughter I just couldn`t hide,
I was on my knees holding my stomach tight
As I watched this absolutely comical sight.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

We didn`t wait round for her to return
Our safety now was my main concern,
Didn`t think she`d be very pleased with me
So I thought it best that we should flee.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

My daughter still skits me about that day
Now won`t let me kick a ball back, no way!
I laugh so hard about it that the tears fall
But I often wonder did she ever get her ball!!
