Have you ever remembered
when you first were on your own
When even a child was there
to chastise or condone
A moment of first choice
where you were totally free
To act with a purpose
being what you want to be
As time passes and friends are gathered
we find less choices in things that matter
A Social rug surrounds us
telling us what we should do
Be it something that we want
matters not to those leading few
Leaders in our life
make choices every day
They make them as their course
no matter what others say
For destiny is only found
upon roads that aren't traveled down
Seeking something rare and beautiful
that only their heart can surround
All dreams are like finger prints
not one is ever alike
Yet they are what we seek
morning noon and night
Some may leave them in their head
never showing them the day
To gather the dust of frustration
blaming all who come their way
Now at the twilight of life
we see not a dream complete
Blank pages lie in front of us
God's homework unattended at our feet
We finally look at our time
wondering where it has all gone
Shedding a lone tear for all the dreams
that molder upon a torn rug.
