Middle C (with devotional by Max Lucado)

Taking piano lessons as a child to early adult
Musical pieces I learned became more difficult
The teacher could tell if I practiced along the way
By how well I knew the song as she heard me play

I remember the first key I learned was middle C
Then practicing scales until doing them with ease
One of the first songs I played had a very cute name
About a wood chuck, with silly lyrics just the same

As I got older, homework took more of my schedule
Plus I had lost interest in practicing the piano as a rule
It was a very large upright piano and really out of tune
Sold before the last move, but had served its purpose too

I do have a half-sized portable organ I sometimes play
For my own relaxation and enjoyment on a given day
I have discovered I can even play some songs by ear
Especially the melody of favorite hymns I love so dear

I was reading a short devotional by Max Lucado recently
He shared how God never changes, a constant middle C
Changes occur in relationships, health, and the weather
But God's sovereign rule and plans are the same forever

If your life seems hopeless, like a ship lost on a stormy sea
Reach out to Jesus as your anchor and constant middle C
He will rescue and save you for eternity, just grab onto His rope
By faith, accept His payment for your sin, He is your only hope

Psalm 90:2 (NIV)
Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Middle C
By Max Lucado
"From everlasting to everlasting you are God."  Psalm 90:2

You and I need a middle C. Haven't you had enough change in your life?
Relationships change. Health changes. The weather changes. But the
Yahweh who ruled the earth last night is the same Yahweh who rules
it today. Same convictions. Same plan. Same mood. Same love. He never
changes. You can no more alter God than a pebble can alter the rhythm
of the Pacific. Yahweh is our Middle C. A still point in a turning world.
