 The Secret of Inner Peace
The secret of inner peace is simple, yet so very illusive;
When I move to it, it scampers away like a frightened rabbit.
Never getting to close, always a step or two ahead of me;
Knowing the possibility exists, yet it slips through my fingers.
Instead of chasing inner peace, I sit and watch it, learning;
Trying to understand the complexities of the matter.
The more I watch, the more I am surprised by its equanimity;
Waiting for me to embrace it, seeking me as much as I seek it.
I notice that my every movement gains a response from my prey;
Inner peace is watching me as intently as I watch it, but why?
Day turns to night; night back into day; week after week;
Year after year; lifetime after lifetime; seeking to understand.
The more I approach inner peace, the more it runs from me;
A am puzzled by this enigma, so I just continue to watch.
I sit in quietness and stillness, aware of my surroundings;
Descending that spiral staircase from my head to reality.
I see inner peace cautiously approach me, slowly, curiously;
Peace now stands before me, it's gentleness envelopes me.
I open my heart and soul; inner peace enters my essence;
Taking up residence inside my soul, now it can speak directly.
I run up the staircase into my head, excited with my new friend;
Inner peace scurries into the shadows of my soul, hiding again.
Returning when I am in the present moment; finally, the secret!!!
The secret of inner peace is simple, yet so very illusive.

Reality simply is… it is our acceptance of that fact that allows
inner peace to thrive or cower within our soul.
