Poetry For Everyday People

Hush Now

I'll give you something
soft
in this hard life,

a place away,

a flickering shadow
behind the jukebox,
a corner table,

something trapped about
high heels and ties?

I believe in slipping off,

the right toes pointing,
or the perfectly loose tie,
a couple of
alley dirty martinis,

a record spinning
Billie Holiday.
