Climb the highest mountain, punch the face of god

Even on a good day

He was 13, even on a good day.
But by 12 he was nothing more than a pumpkin and rags.
He walked by, 11 footsteps, so superior
To my 10 heel clicks.
He'd plead for his 9 to play savior.
A man with a love for crazy 8's, he shifts
A lovely 7 to a satanic 6.
I walk by, 5 minutes too late.
A slovenly jump and 4 sets of regret
Float on by, 3 times too many.
I flail by 2am, remember his praise,
How I was the 1 who could see through the fog.
How 2 was better than none and
It's 3am, the witches come out to play.
I threw insults, 4 at a time,
A 5th flies out for luck, to change his 6
Into a lucky 7.
How I've failed, 8 times, 9 times...
10 too many, I could have fled, we could
Have fled, 11th street was so bitter.
By 12, he was, once again, a pauper and I
Was a 13, even on a good day.
