Fare-thee-well summer
your heat now does ebb
autumnal equinox
is spinning her web
There are signs in the offing
that summer is through
Fall winds whisper sweetly
and call out to you
Summer ripe meadows
have all gone to seed
Cicadas drone drowsy
their song takes the lead

And now come the crickets
chirping on through the night
foretelling with pleasure
crisp, autumn delights

The sun's glowing pupil
in a blue iris of sky
winking welcome to autumn
and to summer, goodbye
