How do we approach a holy God
On the journey in life that we trod?
Certainly with awe and reverence
When entering into His presence
How do we address Him when we pray?
What is our focus by the words we say?
Study His Word and notice His titles
Read the prayers of saints in the Bible
Jesus gave the Lord's Prayer as a guide
We pray to our Father right by our side
Consider the prayers of David the king
Reflect on the simple words he brings
Search me O God and know my heart
See if there be wicked ways on my part
Many times he told God about his fears
God always answered his greatest cares
Jesus spoke against meaningless repetition
When bringing our prayers and petitions
Words reflect inside our heart what we say
He is not impressed with big words we pray
Prayer is talking to God in conversation
Just like friends or family in close relation
Here is a general format that I have used
It is called ACTS and helps you focus too
A – Acknowledge God for who and what He is
Creator, Lord and Savior are examples of this
C – Confess known sins, agreeing it was wrong
Accept His forgiveness, He forgets it all along
T – Thank God for everything that He has done
Most of all for your salvation through His Son
S – Supplication of requests on behalf of others
Jesus calls us to lift up and pray for one another
Matthew 6:6-8 (NASB)
6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when
you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is
in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret
will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use
vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that
they will be heard for their many words. 8 Therefore do
not be like them. For your Father knows the things you
have need of before you ask Him.
