LOVES ME, LOVES ME NOT
The grass was soft
Shimmering emerald green
Plushest feel
Beside rippling stream
She stole a glance
Of the sun full ahead
Lay as comfortable
T'was her homely bed
Her cheek was tickled
By a diaphanous blade
She smiled forlornly
Over plans they had made
Sweet lovers' pact
She and her beau
Seeds were planted
Deep love would grow
Enlistment call
He was torn from home
Precious days later
She sat alone
A diamond he left
Till he returned to her
Worn on her finger
Heart in despair
Was he homeward bound?
Would his love abide?
Ebb and flow on
Oceans tide
She plucked a daisy
Soft and white
To ask a question
Wrong or right
He loves me
He loves me not
Holding her breath
Heartbeat might stop
Across the waves
Upon open meadow
“Leave me not”
Whispered in the shadows
Lilting voice
Calling o'er the miles
“Be with you my darling,
Dry your tears and smile”
