SHE WAS A  SUNFLOWER

SHE WAS A  SUNFLOWER  -  THE HYBRIDS

THE HYBRIDS

Their mother was called Sunny for she was a  sunflower
tall and straight with yellow petals

Their father was Al short for Asparagus
All the gourmets chefs thought he was the best

They found each other in the garden close to the sweet peas
to some they look strange to each other they were in love

Their time together was short lived
bees did a dance on their spring blooms

Zephyr's winds blew and whirled
spreading their pollen everywhere

The following year when the tender shoots
sprung from the ground

everyone was amazed for the beauty they found
flowers in hues of brightest shade

tall and straight like their mother
A beautiful picture they made

Some thought their blooms looked like a face
to others they thought they came from outer space

An artist was called to paint the scene
Hybrids like these no one had ever seen

Working hard day and night the canvas came awake
Colors and shapes were now figures he did make

A little green - a little red - add a little yellow
The artist was becoming a happy fellow

laughing with joy at the finished art
the hybrids were gone from the garden but they would remain in his heart
