This year never started very good for me at all
Although I love my job it does have one big downfall,
And it`s that the people I look after do eventually die
This year I have lost three people which made me cry.

Over the years they became my extended family
Some people think that getting so attached is silly,
But it`s more than a job to me it`s all about caring
Protecting, helping, understanding and sharing.
One of those people was only 48 years old
Life was not easy for him if the truth were told,
He couldn`t live life to the full like the rest of us
But on his disabilities he would never focus.

He was gone so suddenly is was such a shock
It makes you think that we all live against the clock,
The other two people were much older in age
Still, losing someone you care for is hard at any stage.
There`s a family I know who have a three year curse,
Dad died, Mum died, then daughter what could be worse?
The daughter left 2 small children and a young brother
Between the three of them they now have no Mother.

Someone I know had a family tragedy this year
Her brother hung himself and why was never clear,
Torment for the family with questions unanswered
So now they are just left wondering instead.
There are things even in my own neighbourhood
Needless to say that none of these are good,
This is just an insight to how it`s been all year long
At times like this I find it hard to stay strong.

There`s still time yet before we leave this year behind
And constant heartache plays havoc with my mind,
Whichever way I turn there is heartache and sorrow
The only thing I can do is wish for a better tomorrow.
