I want to be generous
But there's no more
Cash in hand
To replace the chalk
I am laying down
Today
For the lives it
May save.
I love you,
Even though
We've never met,
To say you ARE
Loved
Even if the people
In your life
Can't be understanding
That who you fall
In love with
Isn't a decision
You make with
Your head
But your
Heart leaps
When eyes connect
With the same
Sex,
As yourself.
So what if tomorrow
There's no more
Chalk
To draw on the ground
For some other
Expression
Or cause.
Today's generosity
In spite of the fears
I have,
For you
And for me,
May save us
Both.
Red for love and passion
To save another life
So that its not
The blood
Splattering the wall
Behind where
Some bullied
Child
Pulled the trigger.
Cadmium Yellow
For joy and sunshine
And hearing the laughter
In a gay child's
Laugh because
They were saved
By sacrificing
Yellow sticks
To the sidewalk
Today…
My investment
In a happier
Future
With that
Child in it.
My chalks
Are meant to be used
Not saved.
GLBT kids
Are not meant to
Be abused,
But saved,
And cherished…
So I will chalk
Today,
Even if there's
No chalk tomorrow,
There will
Still be you
In this world,
And I think
The sticks
Of Rainbow colors
Are happy
To be the martyrs
For the cause
Of our
Continued lives…
