 28. Broken Angels
What happens
When our Angels
Break their wings?
How do we help
Them to fly again?
How did they
Break them
To begin with?

When an angel's
Heart breaks
So do their wings…
Their levity
Allows them
To rise above
The things
That keep us
Down,
Bound to the Earth
And the things
That keep
Us with heavy
Hearts.

Break her heart
You break her
Wings.

But nothing
Brings out
The best
In human beings
Than to see
One of God's
Champions
Devastated in a heap
At their feet,
Vulnerable
Like a babe…
We weep
With them
For them…
For it breaks
Our own hearts
To see one of God's
Own crying
On the ground
Before us.

Something rises
In our hearts,
And the protector
In us gains
The wings
The angels
Lost…

We take them in
To our arms
Into Our hearts
And pour out
The balm
That would
Soothe their
Souls…
For we cannot abide
To walk by
Because it is
Ourselves
We see there on
The floor broken.
To love this
Fragile broken
Creature,
Is to heal
The broken
Angel that we
Are all capable
Of being.

So we love them
Hold them,
Feed them,
Shelter them
With the wings
Of the Divine
We never knew
We had,
Until we were
Called.

The Broken Angel
On the floor
Is US…
