Actors become characters.
Players pretend to be
In places that aren't
Really there,
While they sit
Around a table
And roll dice
Simulating
The chances
We take
In Life.
So to do we
Become engrossed
In the stories
When we come to
The Great Stage…
These fleshy things
We wear
Are but
Character
Costumes.
We are
In a story
That the Universe
Has come
To see
To be entertained
And touched.
The best stories
And movies
The best books
And theater
Productions
Are the ones
Where we forget
We are watching
A play.
The seats we are
Sitting on,
The room we are in
The world
That exists outside
Turns into
Nothingness…
The story consumes
Us all.
We forget that
There is a moral
To the story.
We become lost
In the text,
The next word,
Look, action…
Our very breath
Hangs
On what will happen
Next.
So there I was
Listening to her…
It was her story.
She needed to tell it.
I listened,
Thinking first of the
World and the
Room I was in
As she began,
This tale of
Hope, love,
Impossible odds,
Happiness,
Forbidden relationships,
Sacrifice…
And dashed hopes,
Thrown on the rocks
Of despair.
The character speaks
Of never finding
Love ever again,
But those of
Us
Who watch
And listen
In the dark,
Know that
It is the darkness
Which will
Make the character
Shine
All the brighter
Later on in
The story.
“I'll never
feel this way
again.”
We all know
Love will
Find a way,
Or we hope
For it
Anyway.
You are alive
My dear,
So your story
Isn't over,
And “never”
Is a long
Way from here.
When we are lost
In the story,
We forget
We are the authors
Of our
Experience.
The meaning of it
All is up
To us.
We just need
To realize
Before the story
Is over,
That we always
Had the power
To write
How the character
Handled
What happen
To her…
A response
Of hope
Or despair,
Is decided
In each moment,
We are the player
The actor,
The director.
All the world
May be a stage
But we get to
Choose
How we play
In it.
