(Author's Note: Although the internet is a wonderful tool and is capable of bringing people of all nations, races, & creeds together, all too often it is used to promote hatred, racism, religious fervor, and extreme nationalism. After receiving a supposedly "true story" of hatred surrounding the aftermath of 9/11, I felt compelled to write the following piece. If we were all PRO something and less ANTI things we don't like or understand, the world would be a better place...but that's just my humble opinion...)
Prejudice comes
in many forms
catching us off guard
infiltrating our own minds
as we become bigots, unaware
Our arrogance
in different forms
of elitist pride creates
a falseness of righteousness
blighted by hatred, unaware
Intolerance grows
watered by the fear
that flows from ingrained
rhetoric absorbed from others
who learned from others, unaware
Boundaries divide
literally, figuratively,
believing unquestioningly in
tenets of religions, nationalism,
or culturalism we die, unaware
Ignorance perpetuating
negativity abounds now
unchecked in the bliss of apathy
while all around us the world falls
drowning in a sea of bigotry, unaware
