MORNING'S MAID
Morning's maid with fingers of ice
Threw back sheets of frost across the dawn
I scratched at my window pane and a fearful snap
Sent shudders down my freezing spine
My cheeks bitten by the coldness she presented with
Diamond icicles draped around my neck
The church clock chimed for seven and
I scurried to the door, afraid of being late
A hand held out to me
Restraining the slip of foot upon glacial path
There lay a million crystal nuggets
Mirroring autumn morning's best
