COMING HOME
***************
The road was dusty as my station wagon
made its way down to the house by the ocean
I was coming home after being gone for many years
***************
There it stood a great beacon still and majestic
painted white with its bright light
high in the sky for the ships at sea to see
***************
Flowers covered the fence with blooms blue as the sky
Gulls in proud struts marched about guarding their site
Old Glory still flew in its red white and blue up high
***************
Waves rushed to the beach happy for me to see
It had been so long since I had walked on these sands
A feeling of joy filled my heart for this was home to me
***************
The wind whispered its greeting welcoming me again
Sites and smells filled my senses with peace
Home of my youth - a lighthouse for the sailor's refuges
***************
As a child I had played on its steps
As a youngster I did grow - loving each day
Soaking in the sun and wind - exploring rocks and shells
***************
waving to dolphins out in the deep
storing away memories to keep
Those happy days without cares or want
***************
secure in the love that was given without charge
Content with secrets told to me from the sea and breeze
Makes me want to be a child again
