Simple things become the best of me
Upon porch swing, innocent ecstasy
I'd swing forever if just to be
With her I've come to know, you see
Years blew by for both of us
Simply was broken, broken was trust
By those who swore to have and keep
Her safe from harm, they fell asleep
Asleep to needs of hers, just theirs
Coma maybe, nightmares she'd bare
Alone with bedside company
No love, real love would come to be
But dreams come true where one thirsty
Would come from miles with love bursting
At the seams for one like her who had his heart
In hands, hers soft right from the start
We may have missed the boat back then
Today's promise, I'll work to mend
The needs of her I've come to love
With thanks to Him who reigns above
Swing we will right past those days
Higher still we'll swing, possibly stay
Up where thoughts and stars we both become one,
Become dreams lived before we're done
Like children once we'll live what's left
In love forever by hearts that wept
But no more only upon a porch swing
Swinging in love, amongst other things
