On the tables near Milt's bed
Are photographs
One of me alone
The other of Milt and me
Both of us looking
Happy as can be
SMILING . . . SMILING (:-)

My five-day visit is half over
But today there will be
Some time to relax
For both of us, you see.

He'll have more dialysis tomorrow
But today, this is true
We'll be free to watch
DAYS OF OUR LIVES
Yes Milt, again I'll laugh with you
At the troubles which torment
That motley soap opera crew!

We'll play some gin rummy
And I'll pretend to be sad
That you beat me again
However, inside I'll be glad

Because no matter how sick you feel
Or how bad your pain
None of this has harmed
Your wonderful spirit and brain.

In two days I'll leave here
So I said
"Milt, would you like me to come back
In a month or six weeks
And stay again for a little while?"

I MUST TAKE A PHOTO
OF THIS DEAR MAN'S BIG SMILE!

Milt, the pain and suffering
You're going through
I came close, so many times
To losing you.

I worry and I worry
But I'm grateful as can be
For this angel on earth -- this war hero
Who cares so much about me.

So despite all of my terrible fears
This morning I'm shedding happy tears.
