There was a time not long ago
Where many things were birthed untold
Of innocence in child that roamed
The countryside once he called home
An army brat of sorts I'd say
Where time would take father away
To serve upon a land not ours
Leaving mother for years and countless hours
This little boy would make some friends
About these places where he'd defend
His fort, his piece of home back then
Today missing, wishing they'd never end
Below the porch of trailer home
He gathered magic he'd call his own
Where Bees in jars empty of Mayonnaise
Would buzz about on hot Summer days
His prize catches would be of flies
Not of the kind you swat and died
But of the kind that glowed at night
Bringing pure magic to eyes delight
These small lanterns would light the way
When he would drift not far away
Holding his jar tightly in arms
Keeping his catch real safe from harm
He'd gather by the woods at night
Along with friends about his height
Where all would bring bounty of theirs
Collections great, treasures compared
He'd run with his holding his jar
Over his head, these captured stars
His fireflies lighting the night
His favorite catch glowing gold lights
They were his stars on cloudy days
That lit much more, you see they stayed
Inside a heart that glows like them
Where days were His of M & M
Childhood years are times we all wish we could relive
Our memories serve us well, when we can return to
them but for a moment. This is a brief stroll of my
growing up is Army bases in Maryland and Missouri
Hence the title M & M Moments
