 IN   A   WHISPER

Silently he rose from a pillow warm.
A whisper…..and he was gone.
Gone the pain.
Gone the suffering.
Tormented by an ache
That no-one should be punished by.

Beyond three score and ten
With eyes that had seen life and
Feet that had trudged through
War…..he clung
To days that saw him smile,
Days that made him weep and
Family who were his life.

Silent now.

Rested in a place where only the brave tread.
