Young Drivers
As I drive along, I am amazed by the increasing prevalence
Of seeing the number of those considered to be adolescene
Who are now the drivers, sitting sometimes a bit nervously behind the wheels
Of cars, vans and the now the most popular vehicles called SUV's.
There they are with the cellphones texting, or cocked on the ears
Radio so loudly and the sound drowning others in the air
And other when you pass them you can see, most definitely
Driving such a large vehicle at such a high velocity.
There are parents who out of love and joy and ever exuberance
Quickly presented them with a vehicle, when they obtain a driver's licence
Not trying to understand it, they are off and driving speedily
Lose control and make a head on collision with a wall, post or tree.
Sometimes some of them are not even that lucky
The accident occasionally inflict some serious head injuries
So after many days and time, being spent on life support
The plug is pulled as those close, give up hope for a positive report.
As they are young with time and some means of mobility
Weekends this is time to gather and have fun and attend those parties
Not too much responsiblity, so why not smoke, eat, drink and be merry
And in such a state, when they are driving there is lesser control and dexterity.
Now being a bit inexperienced as well a being under the influence
It is therefore difficult to calculate speed and also distance
So now with having those reflexes reduced, it has now has most certainly
Increased that chances of being involve in an accident a stark reality.
Many of the youths have occupations so that they can have the finances
To accquire a vehicle at any time, with little or no assistance
But most insurance companies see them as inexperienced and a liabilty
So they have to pay a premium, which they hope will bring some responsibility.
It is always good to see the younger generation, acting independently
But as always they have to drive on the road more responsibly
Take some time out, to know and understand that intricacies of the vehicle
Before taking those chances, which may later prove to be detrimental.
