 67. Dirty Old Men
(For Jim & Lenny)

Dirty Old Men
Have loved me
Ever since
I was a little girl,
And I have
Always
Loved them back
In spite
Of themselves.

I remember
He loved me
White hair
Big smile
Deep voice
Even bigger smile
And an
Endless supply
Of hugs.
He used to
Take me out
On the lake
In his sailboat
Full wind
In the sail
Trying to make
Me squeal
From the angle
Of the boat
Nearly tipped
Over,
But I never did
Because I always
Knew
I was safe.
He liked that
About me.

I loved him.
Right up until
The day he died.
My
Dirty Old Man.
My Jim.

I remember
When he hugged me
And looked at me
That way,
The way
That says
Just cause'
You're 40
And I'm
That many more
Doesn't mean
I don't see
How beautiful
You are.

I remember thinking
“How cute.”
It had been so long
Since I had
A sweet
Dirty old man
In my life,
And found it
Endearing.
Sweet Lenny.

I know.
I know.
I've felt
Those fears
Creeping into
The minds
Whispering indiscretions
And things
Which monsters
Had left impressions
Many had wished
Had never been left,
But I have been
Blessed,
And wanted
To let you
Know
Not all
Dirty Old Men
Are creeps
Some of them
Are just
Down right
Sweet.

Which is why
I love my
Dirty Old men,
Because someday
I'll be a
Dirty Old Woman.
