There's a part
Of me
That knows
Your struggle
And confusion
Today
With the lack
Of logic
The world
Is trying
To present
As common sense
Is bull – it
But it
Won't last
Forever.
Does it Matter…
She asks,
“Does it really,
I mean totally
and completely,
genuinely matter
that we're alive?
I mean this both
on a individual
and mass level.”
Neither Science
Nor religion
Has nor can
Answer this
For her.
So I say
To her…
“You are trying to
understand
without caring,
without love,
without compassion,
or empathy,
on a pure
intellectual level,
and I tell you,
that you cannot dissect
the mind from
the heart
& have
understanding.”
On a mass level
Ask the survivors
Of Auschwitz
Who have seen
And survived
The mass graves.
Ask the Native
American Indians
If their ancestors
Are at peace
With the systematic
Massacre
Of their people.
On an individual
Level,
Ask the mother
Who just lost
Her child
To leukemia
Why it matters.
Imagine your life
Without any
Of us
In it,
And I dare
You to feel
Nothing,
Keeping your
Heart out of
The process
Of imagining
A life trying
To survive
Without your
Mother…
Ask Brittany…
Who just
Lost hers…
Without
Compassion,
Would you look
Her in the eye
And say,
“I don't
get it?”
If tomorrow
I got on my
Scooter,
And
Was mowed
Down by
Some guy
In an SUV,
An accident,
Could you say
With as much
Indifference,
That my life
Didn't matter?
Nor my art,
Nor my poetry,
Nor my love
Or kindness?
That no one
Noticed?
Can these
Questions be answered
Without involving
The heart?
The soul?
All the world
Is filled
With the miraculous,
But it is not
The intellect
That is needed
To see it,
But the heart
To feel
Its
Importance,
That it
Matters.
