 Christmas Wish
A friend asked me today what I wanted for Christmas;
My answer was an attempt at wit, something off the cuff.
I said that I wanted the hair on my chest and back to grow
On my head, seemed it slipped south when I wasn't looking.
I topped that off with the phrase, LOL, making it all good;
Trivializing the request for me to express my Christmas wish.
As the afternoon passed, the request haunted me somewhat…
What would I want for Christmas, if I truly opened my heart?
I am seeing this season through my 3 year old grandson's eyes;
As fresh as the morning snow at first light, before touched by man.
I sigh, watching, as I allow my thoughts to display themselves;
Looking for that truth in the moment, what is my Christmas wish.
The semantics of the moment sweep over me, feelings and hopes;
World peace? At what cost… Happiness? So fleeting of a feeling.
I continue on… Stuff? Nope, not in your life, for it has no reality;
Joy? I had to think about this one for a while before moving on.
Love? Nailed it! To know love, regardless of what life brings our way;
This is a Christmas wish worthy of the question. To know love…
