The Divorce

Today will perhaps be one of the saddest and hardest days for me
It has finally come, the time when you and I are parting company
Oh what when wrong, why have these many years in the marriage course
Will now be ending in, what will be even though amicable a divorce.

Even though I am opened minded and can very well understand
The reason why you want this long union to come to an end.
So let us do each other a favour, and do not pretend
That we will be staging a show, to display before our children.

This I know to them,  will be very hard but i hope they will comprehend
As we try to open up the real scenario, unfolding it to them
No doubt it will be hard on all of us, but it will be a plus
If we prepare them, hoping that the adjustment will not be too tough.

I will let them know, they have access to me at anytime
Their welfare is always first and foremost on my mind
Will fullfil all my paternal obligation, no impediment or trepidations
Can deter me when it comes time for me to carry out my fatherly obligations.

There will be in no way that i will be bitter, and endeavour
To use any trick to make them prefer one parent over the other
And let us be adults and some  of those habits, try to refrain
From using them as pawns in any form of popularity game.

Even though, we have come to the point of agreeing to disagree
Let there should be not room for  neither rancour nor animosity
Even as we part, you  know from now onwards, and this is for sure
That there is always a clear path to me, I have an open door.
