 On that Christmas Day
I was looking through some photos
That you kept in your top drawer
They were taken at our cabin
When I think I was just four

There was me and you and father
In a boat on Shasta Lake
How I wish that we were still there
Drinking ice cold lemonade

Why did father leave us?
You rarely speak his name
Did he go to Jesus?
On that Christmas Day
I remember crying
Then kneeling down to pray
Why did father leave us?
On that Christmas Day

I am thumbing through the pages
Of your white laced wedding book
And I see you there with father
Oh how beautiful you looked

I saw the love within you
Yes it showed upon your face
You were kissing my dear father
Now that look has been erased

Why did father leave us?
You rarely speak his name
Did he go to Jesus?
On that Christmas Day
I remember crying
Then kneeling down to pray
Why did father leave us?
On that Christmas Day

So I search inside your Bible
For the comfort that I need
That is when I find a letter
It was clearly meant for me

It was written by my father
He was telling me goodbye
That is when I heard Jesus
Now I know the reason why

Now I know why father left us
He finally feels no pain
He went home with Jesus
On that Christmas Day
I'm no longer crying
Cause I know that he's okay
Yes I know why father left us
On that Christmas Day

So mother do not worry
You can always speak his name
Cause I know that father loved me
Let's enjoy this Christmas day
