Poetry For Everyday People
Aunt, Do Dee
I had a quiet aunt,
in Egypt,
colorful, passionate,
artistic, alone,
man the food
she made,
I remember visiting her,
I remember walking up
the steps, with my parents,
to her apatrment,
the lights were always out
in her building, you couldn't
see a step, but, it didn't matter,
I love the fact I had no conclusion,
nor theory, nor preconceived herd-wrapped
conformed thoughts about it,
she didn't have a lot of material
things, yet for the hour or two
when we visited her, she had everything,
American comic books were under
her sink,
she put coins inside cakes for us,
Dimes, Nickles,
it took me a while to know,
but she is what most wanna be,
within,
poems, novels and a life time
of ocean waves reaching,
she gave me magic,
before it was ever sold to me.
in Egypt,
colorful, passionate,
artistic, alone,
man the food
she made,
I remember visiting her,
I remember walking up
the steps, with my parents,
to her apatrment,
the lights were always out
in her building, you couldn't
see a step, but, it didn't matter,
I love the fact I had no conclusion,
nor theory, nor preconceived herd-wrapped
conformed thoughts about it,
she didn't have a lot of material
