There was an amazing star in the sky last night
Shining bright, incredible light, awesome sight
It exploded in the rarefied air, suspended there
In the nighttime sky, rapidly spreading everywhere....
Reaching out with writhing tentacles of red
Other colors bled into a kaleidoscopic spread
(We all know there are no colors without light
All is bland and black as in the dead of night)....
While darts of sparkling stardust fell all around
Hitting the ground with only the slightest sound
Within the maelstrom's womb of cosmic fire
Streaks began to aspire to climb ever higher....
Spinning loops in cosmic groups intertwining
Aligning, defining, designing, combining,
They owned the night, alight as new starbright
A delightful frightful spectacular audacious sight....
Spinning, spanning spiderwebs, intricately spun
Scattering lesser objects, sending them on the run
As if announcing that a newborn sun had sprung
Into the sky to give a respite to the older one....
