mind games

each day he painted her
in the recess of his mind
each stroke laid with care
being cruel rather than be kind
yet he captured her beauty
as he recalled the long past bliss
the very pleasant booty
of their first illicit kiss

he painted with a knowledge
that only a lover can hold
remembering that pledge
when their love was young and bold
he knew her body every single inch
had held it so closely to him
in many a passionate clinch
limb entwined with limb

days filed in a memory press
the sated look on her face
as he watched her slowly dress
each move an expression of grace
he tried to paint her open lust
tried to paint her as a faithless tart
but he just couldn't betray the trust
although her leaving broke his heart
