 Poems for Lovers and Sinners

Have We Passed This Way Before?

Have we passed this way before?
You and I,
Kissed the violet sunset before the sea
Walked among the hills oh my bonny lass
Kissed and lingered just you and me…

Have we passed this way before?
Taken vows and heard bells ring out
Oh happy day they sing and shout
As a shiny token of our love you wore
I wonder…
Have we done this and maybe more?

Have we passed this way before?
When those cries in the night were heard
You gave to me a baby son
Now as a family we were as one

But all is not as it seemed
There was a dark horizon brewing
You left another for this courting
And revenge did he require

Have we passed this way before?
Heard those gunshots in the night
That shadowy figure by the door
Firing straight to do or die

We died together you and I
But our son lived on to tell
This story about our true love
In the end he did fell
The monster who at that door
Broke our love in this life
But is born again once more
Have we passed this way before?
