THE THUNDER AND LIGHTNING OF AN AC-47

When the VC were trying to attack your base
All it would take was a call on your radio
And those attacking were dealt with swiftly

Like lighting bolts blazing from the sky
The response was very immediate and final
Never again would these VC strike anyone

For they had dared to mess with the best
And from high above they came to strike
The enemy were brought under deadly fire

The defenders had survived this night
Because their call for help was heard
Answered by an AC-47 "Spooky Gunship"

No matter what branch you served with
If you were in trouble and needed help
You could always count on the Spooky

For we were all brothers in that war
And we all took care of each other
The Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force

When your situation had become critical
The guys in the Spooky heard your call
Striking back with thunder and lighting

For those facing danger on the ground knew
In a few minutes the threat would be over
And they would survive yet another night

There was always a reassuring reply when you had called
out for air support during a fight in Vietnam at night,
what you'd heard on the radio was this very calm voice
from the pilot of an AC-47 Spooky Gunship sent to help
you end the VC attack "It'll only take a minute".
