Stretch Monster
Was my
Cuddle buddy
Because I was
Allergic to fuzzy
Animals.
Lego's had
Big yellow heads
And the little
Lego people
Were new.
Kiss was a magical
Band
And
The Captain
And Tennille
Were cool,
The day
Elvis died.
There was only
ONE Star Trek
And
Star Wars.
Charlie's Angels
Bionic Woman
And
Wonder Woman
Were my
Heroes,
Because I didn't
Even know
There was such a word
As heroines.
Forts were made
With blankets
And sheets
In the living room,
And we used
Our imaginations
To play out
Invented stories.
There were only
3 Channels on TV.
Microwave ovens
And personal computers
Were things only
Rich people had.
Bi-centennial Quarters
Were a dime
A dozen.
The Love Boat
Lawrence Welk
Hee-Haw
And MASH
Were shows
Old people watched.
Mom watched
Black & White movies
On the color TV.
Sticks were either
Swords or light-sabers.
I had to go
Door to door
To sell girls scout cookies
And it was HARD,
Because moms
Still made
Their own
Cookies.
I played outside
For hours
With no one
Knowing where I was
And it was safe
Ok
And expected.
Trick or treating
Was before
The guy put
The razor blade
In the apple
& changed
everything.
Santa Clause
Was real
& he came
To Miller & Rhodes…
I tested him
Trying to make sure
He wasn't getting
My name or
My brother's
From the Snow Queen…
To this very day
I believe.
When I was in
Kindergarten
Chris Drummond
Was the coolest boy
On the playground
That all the girls
Wanted to kiss
Because he had crutches.
It's fun
To reminisce
About when
I was a little
Girl.
