Queensland's Tragedy ( Never underestimate mother nature )

With many years of drought and banks forced to foreclose,
Saw farmers tend their arid land where little vegetation grows,
No more feed left for grazing so their stock reduced in size,
Cutting their losses to sell would be both prudent and very wise,

For those that survived the drought know one day rain will come,
When clouds bring water from above, good times ahead for some,
Most dams were replenished from their rainbow's pot of gold,
This cloud had no silver lining, a tragic portent that wasn't foretold,

As the rain kept tumbling down and the rivers were now in spate,
A complete opposite of lengthy drought, a complete opposite of fate,
With the ground now truly sodden, flooding now a realistic fear,
Many communities building levies as the rising water drew ever near,

Some rural properties were cut off but still it continued to rain,
Local farmers lost many of their livestock and ruining all their grain,
Now increasing water levels left cities and towns under threat,
The now grim realization of the fear that comes with this big wet,

Roads were now impassable, much communications now in doubt,
Evacuation was now the imperative, to get the stricken people out,
Some were taken by helicopter, rescue boats took others out too,
They left behind all that they treasured, there was nothing left to do,

Many rail lines were now washed away and airports closed to all,
Needing to get people to higher grounds or the evacuation hall,
Community safety needed to come first with nothing left to chance,
Floods covering Queensland an area bigger than Germany and France,

The Queensland's floods covered houses, businesses and schools,
But the Queenslanders are resilient, just give them the needed tools,
Their spirit will never be broken, given adversity they will rise again,
Giving up is not in their vocabulary even though it continues to rain,

The floods are now of biblical proportions, with no end yet in sight,
But the bigger you set the challenge, a bigger heart is in for the fight,
One day these flooding waters will leave a heritage of some good,
Even then the spirited, Queenslanders will still help you if they could.

Now still the tempest rolls on, drowning the once fertile land
The whole world now takes notice, they want to help if they can
Even though there's no respite in sight, the will of man shall succeed,
No matter how long it may take, and they'll take whatever they need,

The floods now drowning city after city, drowning town after town,
Rivers are still bursting their banks, flooding water making its way down,
However like the rising of the Phoenix, a new spirit adapted to cope,
So that out of tragedy comes strength and out of strength will come hope.
