When I think about military service
It's not all about the might of the warriors
I remember a four year old orphan boy
I found him on the bottom of a staircase
I was a medic on an ambulance run
The driver and I looked at each other
The rules are clear I held rank
Only if military involved do you bring
a civilian on base
This was a kid I knew
Not all of an airman's time is fighting
On our off days we went to the orphanage
We saw kids legless, armless and lifeless
With nothing to do but stare at us
Next day we came with rakes and shovels
The kids were more than willing to help
We cleared the field for a baseball diamond
Built the kids a basketball court
Taught the kids American game of baseball
So here hurt I find one of my kids
Korean saying he hit by Air Force truck
He was chubby fell down the stairs
the concussion only part of pain
Tape worms was what made him fat
You think of skinny kids with worms
The worms take nourishment making you eat more
Months later he came back to see me slim
The little fat kid who never smiled was smiling
It was worth giving up a stripe
It is not all about war we serve
At home you do not always hear about humanity
Today Koreans are playing major league sports
Trust me it was not always that way
If you had only seen my first all star team
