The summer went by very fast
Moving day had arrived at last Family said goodbye at the door Time of mixed emotions for sure Upon arriving, he checked out his dorm Shared with two roommates as the norm Somewhat small but nice cozy little space Being new there, he felt so out of place Tom had grown up in a small town Now he would be living on his own Not fully prepared for life in the city Far away from his friends and family Part of his contract to play basketball Depended on academic grades above all The NBA set values on strong education While maintaining solid moral reputation Classes started and also basketball training Several months before season's beginning He tutored a student in math twice a week Providing just enough income he did seek Tom missed hanging out with his friends He wanted so much to be able to fit in Upon being invited to join a fraternity He looked forward to the initiation party © Carol Salter 2/6/11 Next segment – The Fraternity Party Vote for this poem
