Sitting here in my lounge chair resting after a days work
Reading the newspaper from beginning to end
I pull my paper down enough to look over the edge
I watch you in heavy thought, pen in hand and your foot tapping
In two weeks we celebrate fourteen loving years together
The man who holds the key to my heart
My best friend, my confidante, my one true love
How do I put into words what he has meant to me
How you must be walking in a world of dreams
You raise your pen and eagerly put to your paper
Somewhere between a thought, an idea or your memory
You write your words upon your page of prose
The beautiful memories we have made together
The sweet ways that he reads his evening paper
While he secretly watches me as I do my work
I can feel his handsome blue eyes loving me
Folding my paper gingerly, I place it down to my side
I sink into my lounger and study your moves
I wonder what one thing I have done
That our Heavenly Father would bless me so?
Dear God, I thank you so much for blessing me
With a man whose every action says “I love you!”
If he only knew how completely he captivates me
How he is the catalyst for every beat of my heart
It's going on fourteen years since you and I first met
We were standing in a line to buy tickets at a local carnival
We ended up having to share a seat on the ride, we had a ball!
Such a night of poetic freedom and artistry
Just think, if I had not decided to go to that carnival
I would never have received the gift of my truest love
That day will stay embedded in my mind forever
Each day I wake up next to him is a dream come true
I sit here at the home you and I created and you in repose
Just the sight of you my love makes my heart dance even now
I have so much love and devotion for you still
Still, as the song goes, "You take my breath away"
You, my love, have been the twine that has always bound
Our hopes and dreams and happiness and passion together
Pure and honest is your love that has endured all these years
Passionate and powerful is your touch that leaves me breathless
Fourteen years later, still I find you a rare and precious beauty
Beauty to look at and beauty that lies deep within
You're an incredible lady with a generous heart
I wonder why you like an old fool such as me
To me you are handsome beyond all measure of beauty and light
But the true essence of your beauty lies in the depth of your heart
You continually love me past all pain and any imperfections
You see clearly all the blessings that dwell deep inside my being
Where would I be, if a laugh wouldn't have brought us together?
What manner of man would I be without your light?
Fourteen years together, you gave me three beautiful children
I'd be lost, alone and I'd miss your tender loving ways
Just when I thought we had reached the highest plateau
That two people totally in love could ever attain
God blessed our union with three wonderful children
The blending of our love creating the seed of our future
Well, I tell you what, keep penning your Masterpiece
I love your stories, prose and poems on any subject
I'll unfold my paper, go back to reading the sports section
Every now and then, I'll glance your way, like I have for fourteen years
God knows I love you,
And so do you!
You are my stars at midnight; my sunlight at midday
You are the source of my smiles and happiness in every way
You've been my strength when I was weak and kept me going
You are the other half of my soul and the completion of my heart
Without you, I would be lost
