 169. I'd Rather
I'd rather be your friend
Than your teacher,
I'd rather walk beside you
Than
In front of you
I'd rather we take
Turns in learning
From one another
For that is closer
To the truth.

Rather than hear
Your praise
I'd rather hear
Pride in your voice
For your own
Efforts.

I'd rather your
Daughter learn
From her mother
What self-esteem is
I'd rather she learn it
From you
Than me.

I'd rather
We do it
Together,
Than
To put me up
On that pedestal
Because looking down
On you
Is not where
I aspire
To be.

The power
Of friendship
Is together
Not set
Apart.

That
Is why
I'd rather
Be your friend
Than your
Teacher,
Because
In the best
Relationships
We would
Learn and grow
From one another
We would
Take turns
Learning from
One another
During our
Journey together
However long
That may
Be.
