On the 15th of the month, Lazy Susan takes a turn
in the comfortable corner of the couch,
entertained by invisible circuses orbiting her.
She stays in an empty house and wonders why
when she is home, a world walks quickly by.
Susan will not answer her phone or read her mail, today.
Stray hair lies loose on her day-off face.
Szechuan take-out containers litter the place.
Vivaldi arias are the big-top lining the room.
The spectacle must go on, across the street
in the abandoned buildings and empty lot.
Useless ghosts defy death and dance with danger, again.
Removing a folded fortune from a cracked cookie,
Susan laughs out loud, and sighs. Looking out the window,
her life has become the greatest show on earth.
