 MAN IN THE MOON

MAN IN THE MOON

Here I sit watching an instrument that every now and then
Sends me into a frenzy over something that gives me pause,
For whatever the cause may be, I become an inhuman rage.
News warranting a stamp across the face of World Officials!

I pull my ares from the chair of indecision's, head for the john,
The entire time yelling and cursing at the tube for whats said.
Grabbing a beer from the frig, I fly out the door, onto the porch
Chug the brew, belch-out a loud one, as my final word about it!

I stood there for a while listening to the so-called evening news,
Stepping away from the porch, took a breath of fresh country air,
Staring up at that man-in-the-moon against a backdrop of black,
There he was staring down at me with a face as pale as a ghost.

That face was indignant and his expression seemed to mock me.
That ruffled my feathers, looking up I said, "How long have you
been hanging around not doing a damn thing?" I pointed my
finger at him saying, "This whole damn world is falling apart!"

The human race, not forgetting the animal kingdom; are suffering!
Multi-Millions of men, women and children are starving to death.
War, Poverty, Famine, Disease and your personal favorites caused by
Rotations around Earth, Hurricanes, Earthquakes and Tidal Waves!

As if by some form of magic, a gray veil moved across the moon.
Two cratered shadows darken, eyes formed and stared down at me.
I have never felt a chill that cold as to run through my entire body.
In a deep, low raspy voice, the man-in-the-moon began speaking.

"So, I smile and look down on you. Well, let me tell you something!
Through too many beautiful starlit nights, I've had to listen to your
crying and moaning and groaning about everything under the Sun.
Now I'm asking, What in the hell do you want from me, anyway?"

"I've been here long before the dawning of man, before time its self,
My light has been shining through the heavens long before a breath
had ever been taken by a human. You stand there staring up into
infinity and know nothing! You step out of a dwelling; complaining."

"With nothing more to do than stare at the stars and to make a wish.
You have food to eat and clothes to wear, people that love you and
care about you. Though you have made more mistakes in your life,
squandered all blessings given to you. Hello!, you're alive and breathing."

"You have NO right to question me. I heard the suffering of mankind,
Seen ten-thousand Wars of Destruction. You stand there complaining,
While millions of children go to bed hungry and humanity drowns in a
Sea of Perdition. But there is one thing I am good for friend, I give Light!"

"Yes, I give light, even in the blackest of skies and I'm smiling because,
I know the truth... that things are never as bad as they seem and no one
On Earth is ever truly alone... that time is fleeting and there is more to
Life than you can possibly understand, friend! It's a matter of listening."

"But you're always welcome to stare up at me and I fully enjoy all of the
Conversations we have. But you think about what I've said here tonight,
And maybe the next time you run out of that dwelling in frustration from
Watching the television, stand before me and have a smile on Your Face..."

I thought about what the man-in-the-moon said to me. When something
Magical as this happens, there must be a real meaning in the message...
I thought long and hard about it all through the night. First, don't argue
With wisdom like that. The Man-In-The-Moon is more than what we see!
