 My today's thoughts

HE WAS SIX AND SHE WAS FOUR

The pictures of the cute little boy is Derrick David Henderson

He was six and she was four
A true adventure  on a lovely summer night around 1961.......:O)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 His  granny gave Derrick and his sister Ann some pennies for treats
His first thought was 'SWEETS'
The only sweet shop open was a mile away
 His little four year old sister could not walk that far at the end of day
He saw a little red tricycle while playing in the street
 on a footpath outside a house shining a  'take me greet'
 Off to the  sweet shop he and he little sister went 'the happy looters'
she on the nabbed tricycle and he on his two wheeled scooter
Off  they went on their adventure
talking and laughing looking forward to the sweets in their joint venture
Being only four years old her legs got tired of pedaling
He kept her happy talking of the sweets the store was peddling
Sweets bought and in their mouths home they were going
Their granddad saw them while going to the pub in the gloaming
He wanted to know why they were there and what they were doing
he told them to go home - "Is that sweets you are chewing"
From his pocket granddad gave him a few more pennies with a voice hushed
to the sweetshop as soon as his back was turned they again rushed
On their long way home Ann got very tired
She was so exhausted she could not pedal as required
He took off his elastic snake belt to use for a tow
 tied it to her handle bars and the back of his scooter off they did go
Half way home he met his brother who was three years older than him
He was sent out to look for them by their Mam who was worried about them
They shared their sweets telling him their tale
He said their Mam was going to make him yell
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A good scolding and a red ear he got from his Mam when they arrived home
She told them far from their home not to roam

Seeing the tricycle she ask from where it came
Taking something not theirs was a shame

From the footpath he has taken it Derrick confessed
It had been needed for their quest

She told him to take it back home - he said he knew he was wrong
BUT he just could not return it where it belonged

The job of returning the tricycle was given to his older brother
The lady had been looking for it first one place then another

So pleased was the owner of the little red trike
a shiny sixpence was given to the smiling older brother
of the boy who did the heist!

A true story my Poetry Poem friend  Derrick told to me
He lives in the North East of England  ........:O)

Derrick wrote   "I used to get into troubles a fair few times
but in my little mind
I was not doing anything wrong
 just looking after my Sis and sharing in our new found wealth
 you were rich if you had a hand full of pennies and
the  spoils were sweets"
