'' Only Then Can Your Addictions Be Cured ''

On drink and drugs they are both addicted,
But everyone else is to blame,
With their vices they're truly afflicted,
But it's our fault they're in the frame.

They never accept that they have a choice,
Like others they could just say no,
Contradict them they'll speak with one voice,
That's when their excuses will flow.

They need their fix or something to drink,
They live in a world that is murky,
Not for a moment do any of them think,
It would be easier to go cold turkey.

But that is something they would never do,
For their habits must always be served,
They just don't want to start life anew,
Their lifestyle can and will be preserved.

They're forever taking but rarely give,
Drunk and stoned out of their head,
It's an utterly selfish way to live,
They're like extras from the living dead.

We need to stop funding them to be this way,
Surely someone must see the light,
We are wasting millions each and every day,
Yet we never see any respite.

As the addicts increase year on year,
This spending is now such a waste,
Addiction to them has become a career,
In this lifestyle they are wholly embraced.

When will we learn we are wasting our time,
In every town and in every city,
What they're doing to us should be classed as a crime,
Let them wallow in their own self  pity.

What have we achieved by pandering to their needs,
More addicts is the answer you seek,
It's on our sympathy the addict feeds,
They know our resistance is weak.

If they want our help they'll be given assistance,
But there must be conditions attached,
One of them is if they show resistance,
Our response to them will be matched.

We will all suffer hardship at some point in life,
But adversity we can overcome,
Drink and drugs only increase your strife,
It's a fact abusing either is dumb.

When you stop blaming others for your mistakes,
That's the day you can be reassured,
In the journey of life we make our own breaks,
