Harry Sweeden. My life in verse.

The darkness inside

Sunlight brings no more the warmth to hold me
and the brightness of day reveals only my fears
while the windows of life still conjure up moments
the darkness inside awaits to appear.

The happiness I know seems to drown in life's sorrow
all ambition is lost with so far to run
glory once gained, but only in battle
life is still living though no battle won.

Pictures still haunt me from all my eyes witnessed
loved ones and young ones so cruelly destroyed
bullets and bombs still talk louder than friendship
love ever after… the thing to avoid.

Mankind's deliverance is also man's downfall
we strive for so much that some of us must fail
then the sunlight of day only darkens each moment
till the coffin is closed and banged in the last nail.
