 180. I Wish There Was More Time
(for Haley)

This is the second time
I have met a woman
And fell in love with her
Before she was sent off
To be a soldier.

Both times
I fell instantly
Forever
And hard.

You've but met me once
And I haven't had
The chance
To tell you,
To truly convey
That I will love you
Now and forever…
Some part of my soul
Is only yours.

There were others
That were there
Shining like the stars
All glittering
Young and new
Crossed in your eyes
Written across your heart,
And there simply
Wasn't enough time
For us,
To hold hands
To talk for hours
To make love
To share dreams
To do more things
Than readers
Have time
For in
Poems.

But I would happily
Take forever
To stare into your eyes
And remember every fiber
In the colors
In your eyes today
So I won't forget them
For the time
You are gone.

The person you are now
Will be forever
Transformed,
But that pure note
That emanates
From your core,
I can close my eyes
And point to
No matter where
You are the world
And know
You are there
And how you are.

There just hasn't been
Time to tell you,
That I can hear
Your soul
As clearly
As my own breath.

That I've known
You before
And will know
You again…
When there is time.
